WELCOME TO THE 2025 WIMBORNE GARDENING CLUB - LATE SUMMER SHOW

We have a full programme of monthly talks at St Catherine’s Church Hall, Rodways Corner, BH21 1LE (opposite Quarterjack Surgery), on the first Monday of the month at 7.30pm. (second Monday, when first is a bank holiday). Further details can be found on the website.

MEET THE PLANNING COMMITTEE.

Anthony Oliver, Pam Chamberlain, Jane Green (Show Manager), Jane Jackson, Tim Jones, Martin Stewart.

GENERAL Awards will be presented at 3.30pm, followed by the raffle. Exhibits should only then be removed. Anything left behind after the show will be disposed of.

RULES FOR EXHIBITORS Full rules are available on the website.

1. All exhibits, except where stated, must be grown or produced by the exhibitor.

2. Exhibitors may only have one entry in each class. Two or more people may not exhibit in the same class from the same garden.

3. Vases and all receptacles must be provided by the exhibitor, unless stated otherwise. Please adhere to the brief that has been set in all classes scheduled, so that exhibits meet the criteria, and can be awarded the appropriate prize.

4. Judging - First, second and third place certificates will be awarded.

5. The judges’ decisions are final.

6. All trophies are Perpetual Challenge Trophies and may be held until one month before the next Show when they shall be returned to Jane Green, in the state in which they were received.

Personal data given for show entries will only be held for the purposes of show management and will never be disclosed to a third party. We will remove any data held on individuals, if requested to do so.

ENTRIES & STAGING

All exhibits must be staged on Saturday 30th August, between 8.30am -10.00am. to allow for judging to commence promptly. When staging, please be careful to place your CARD bearing your name, under your exhibit, HAVING TURNED IT OVER, SO YOUR IDENTITY IS HIDDEN. Wherever possible, names of varieties should be placed on Exhibits.

FLORAL ART Marguerite Cup

37. Harvest basket to include fruit, vegetables and seeds in a basket. Space allowed 20” (510mm) wide.

39. Floral Fantasia – a whimsical display from bud to bloom. Space allowed 20” (510mm) wide.

40. Teacup garden -a small arrangement in a tea cup. Maximum size 9” (230mm) in all directions.

HANDICRAFTS Finlay Shield

Lemon Shortbread

Ingredients

115g unsalted butter room temperature

50g caster sugar

Finely grated rind of 1 or 2 lemons depending on size

175g plain flour

Method

Cream the butter and sugar until soft and creamy; then beat in the lemon rind.

Gradually add the flour and gently pull the dough together to form a soft ball.

Roll out on lightly floured baking paper to form an 8” circle and crimp the edge. Lightly mark into 12 pieces and transfer the shortbread on the paper to a baking tray.

Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes. Set the oven to 160/140c fan.

Remove from fridge and prick the surface with a fork. Sprinkle with a little caster sugar and bake for 30-35mins until golden. Gently cut on the marked lines while hot and allow to cool completely on tray.
